More about Key West…

The US purchased Key West and the Florida peninsula from Spain in 1821. During the early 19th century, this tiny island served as a base to rescue ships and cargo wrecked on the nearby reefs. Its major industries have been fishing (especially shrimp), pineapple canning and cigar production.
